Emirates ID — the key to everything

What Emirates ID is

Emirates ID (EID) is the national identity card of the UAE. A plastic card with a chip. Every resident must have it.

Why do we call it «the key to everything»? Because EVERYTHING in the UAE opens with it:

  • Opening a bank account — needs EID.
  • Renting an apartment (Ejari contract) — needs EID.
  • Getting a phone SIM card — needs EID.
  • School registration for kids — needs EID.
  • Medical insurance and hospitals — need EID.
  • Government portals (tax, immigration) — login with UAE PASS, which is tied to EID.

Two rules you must know

  1. EID dies together with the visa. If the residence visa is cancelled or expired, the EID stops being valid. New visa = new EID.
  2. Do not lose the continuity. When a person changes visa (old cancelled, new issued), there is a grace period (about 60 days baseline; extensions vary — always check the current rule for the case). Plan the change so the client is never «hanging» without status: bank and daily life stop working without a valid status.

UAE PASS. The national digital login (an app on the phone). One login for almost all government portals. We help every client set it up early — it saves hours later.

What you must remember

  • EID opens: bank, rent, SIM, school, insurance, gov portals.
  • EID is tied to the visa; visa dies → EID dies.
  • Plan status changes so there is no gap.
  • UAE PASS = digital key, set it up early.
